Join us for EU open house

Have you ever wondered what the Embassy looks like on the inside? Here is your chance to find out. On May 11, the Embassy will open its doors to the public and allow a glimpse inside the beautiful Republic of Austria.

From 10 am until 4 pm you will have the opportunity to chat with staff and diplomats, taste Austrian coffee and elderberry juice, listen to authentic Austrian folk music and watch a live preparation of one of Austria's famous desserts - the Viennese Apple Strudel. In addition, Austrian wine will be available to taste during the day and you will get an exclusive first look at the Embassy's new project Taste of Austria.

We Recommend: FELIX AUSTRIA!

The U.S.-Austrian co-production Felix Austria!, produced by Christine Beebe (La Turista Films) and Robert Dassanowsky (Belvedere Films), celebrated its world premiere at the 2013 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto on April 27. It is currently presented in the elite World Showcase program, which is the Festival's immensely popular survey of the year's finest non-fiction films from around the world. Felix Austria!  was also eligible for the Audience Award.

Catch-Pop String-Strong in Concert

On April 25, the Embassy hosted the young Vienna-based duo Catch-Pop String-Strong, who performed a variety of Bach, traditional music from the Balkans and the Scottish highlands, pop songs, improvisations on Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, as well as their own compositions.

Lecture: Albrecht Dürer

In light of the Albrecht Duerer exhibit at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Embassy invited Austrian curator Christof Metzger to speak about Albrecht Dürer's influence as an artist. His lecture focused primarily on the 16th century and shed some light on Duerer's first studio and the developmet of his career.

Screening: Museum Hours

On April 14, 2013 the U.S.-Austrian co-production Museum Hours celebrated its premiere at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The film by New York-based director Jem Cohen is a graceful and polished tribute to the power of art and a shrewd character study and a sly homage to the architectural marvels of Vienna.

Spring String Quartet

On April 9, 2013, the Austrian Embassy hosted four young artists who have re-defined the artistic modes of expression of a classic string quartet. For the past 15 years the Spring String Quartet, which consists of Christian Wirth, Marcus Wall, Julian Gillesberger, and Stephan Punderlitschek, has shattered every widespread cliché about string music with their very unique style and extraordinary musical talent.
